The Coffee

This coffee grown in the Halo Beriti Village, Gedo zone, Yirgacheffe, where it  benefits from very high altitudes, fertile soils, and a unique climate, characterised by mountain ranges and dry conditions. These factors contribute to its exceptional quality, resulting in a cup that features bright delightful floral notes and a sweetness that is truly enjoyable.

Farm/Producers

Coffee grown in the Gedo zone, just south of Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia, is cultivated by the local Beriti people on their small farmed lots, often interspersed with other crops that support their families. This method of coffee production is a key reason why Ethiopian coffee is so highly regarded worldwide.

Halo Beriti is named after the area in which it is grown.

The genetic diversity of the flora, combined with the numerous natural mutations of coffee trees found throughout Africa, contributes to the unique flavour profiles. Additionally, the absence of chemical pesticides and the natural growth of wild trees, alongside minimal human intervention, allow the natural characteristics of the coffee to shine through in every cup.

This dedication to preserving the environment and traditional farming methods results in a coffee experience that is rich, complex, and truly reflective of its origins.

The Process

This coffee is processed locally in the Beriti village. Here the hand-picking of ripe cherries, is followed by soaking the cherries in concrete tanks, removing any defective beans. From here the cherries are pulped, and washed, before being sun-dried on raised African beds. Throughout the peak sun hours, the coffee is carefully shaded and regularly rotated to ensure uniform drying. This entire process can take up to 12 days, contributing to the exceptional quality of the coffee produced.

By adhering to these careful methods, the unique characteristics of the coffee are preserved, leading to a rich and complex flavour profile that reflects its origins in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.

Why we like it,

Generally, high-graded washed coffees from the Yirgacheffe region are renowned for their approachability, and this lot is no exception. With delicate, tea-like florals and refined fruit sweetness, it shines across both filter and espresso methods. The exceptionally high altitude and rich soils of Halo Beriti contribute to the coffee’s vibrant flavours, resulting in an aromatic, truly memorable cup.
